The Hogwarts Choir: Mercedes

Mercedes was sitting in her chair, she had to kill Rory Flanagan today and she was starting to have second thoughts. Could she really do this and become a killer? She was fierce and fabulous but could she actually kill someone? Mercedes looked down before she heard that fool Schuester yell at them to get people to join this stupid club. There used to be only five people in the club and who did he give all of the solos to? To his precious little Rachel of course. Mercedes grumbled under her breath, remembering how she and Kurt used to complain about the injustice before he became her little lackey.

The diva gave out a sigh before looking back onto the blackboard that said recruit. Her eyes widened before narrowing down into slits as she saw Kurt and Rachel run up to go sing some crappy Broadway duet before she shot up from her seat. “Oh HELL to the NO!” She yelled out angrily, stepping down from the steps back onto the floor and walking over the stage.

“Merce-” Professor Schuester started before she cut him off “SHUT the HELL up, Mike Brady!” Mercedes yelled out causing the teacher to gasp in shock and walked to the front of the choir room where Rachel and Kurt were standing look scared. “You two gets your skinny white asses out of my way before I show my foot finds its way into them.” She angrily stated and the two divas quickly ran away back into their chairs with their tails between their legs. Mercedes reached into her robes and swung her wand around. The instruments in the room quickly started up and Mercedes closed her eyes as she started to sing.

Mercedes angrily sang out, her eyebrows angrily slanted as she swayed softly from side to side. Professor Schue, being the incompetent fool that he was only stared in awe as she started to sing out. She was done with this club, but she had one last song in her soul that she needed to get out before she went out and finally became a full fledged death eater.

 ”There was a time

Mercedes sung out, staring straight at Kurt not trying to hide to who she was singing to. She remembered the first day that she met him back in their second year. She was in the line at the cafeteria when it happened. Mercedes was still a diva in training, she was waiting patiently behind some kid when an older fourth year cut in front of her and shoved her aside. She almost started crying but the kid behind her, Kurt, had quickly started yelling at the older kid about being rude and not having any manners.

”Thank God you blew it
I thank God I dodged the bullet
I’m so over you

She walked a bit forward and pointed angrily in Kurt’s direction as she continued to sing out the lyrics before walking away, her voice was powerful and it was the one thing that she wasn’t insecure about. She had an amazing voice and if these fools couldn’t even realize that then they didn’t deserve her in this stupid ass club.

Kurt looked uncomfortable and kept shifting in his chair, trying to avoid Mercedes’ glare but she didn’t relent. She had always been there for Kurt, through thick and thin through good times and bad times - back when boys didn’t pay attention to both of them, not just Mercedes like things were now. Now Kurt had a whole host of foolish gay boys drooling after him while she was still stuck with loneliness.

Mercedes still remembered how Kurt had come crying to her when Sam had decided to show his true cowardice and leave Kurt high and dry when everyone was bullying him. She was his personal body guard and walked him to classes, threatening to beat anyone to a bloody pulp if they messed with her boy. Kurt didn’t talk to anyone in his fifth year except for her and then he suddenly formed this friendship out of nowhere with Berry and did what Sam did to him like the hypocrite that he was.

Mercedes walked over to Kurt and belted out note after note right in front of him before backing off and pushing her index finger against Rachel’s forehead, pushing the shocked girl back a bit. She turned on her heel and strut over to Professor Schuester and stared up at him angrily as she continued to sing. Her voice was explosive and it more than carried out in the small choir room. She personally thought she was the best singer in this entire damn club.

She was the first person to even audition for this damn club and did he ever even show his gratitude? No. Mercedes was never given a solo at any of the school events that they had performed and the one time that she was supposed to actually have a solo she gave it up to Rachel because the damn Slytherins had decided to sing the exact same song she was going to sing right before she did.

Mercedes pushed her index finger against Mr. Schue’s chest, glaring at him as he seemed almost as uncomfortable as Kurt was when she was singing out to him. The more she thought about it the more she realized that she hated all Gryffindors. They had been nothing but horrible to her. Rachel was a gigantic spotlight stealing witch, Kurt was a backstabbing jerk, Sam had just used her to hide the fact that he was gay, and Jj had up and left her when she needed her the most even though Mercedes knew that it really wasn’t her fault.

She felt tears prick at her eyes but she quickly blinked them away and angrily sung out at the entire club. Everyone had taken her for granted and no one ever appreciated the thing she did for any of them. Whenever she went through her hardest moments she had to deal with them alone but whenever they were in trouble she was always there for them. Mercedes’ powerful voice rang out through the choir room and all eyes were on her for once.

She watched as they were all in awe of her, maybe because of how rude she had been to finally push her way into the spotlight, maybe they were finally realizing what good of a singer she was, maybe they were realizing how good a friend she was, but whatever the reason was she knew that it was too little too late. She was a death eater now and she was completely through with Hogwarts.

She whispered out the last line of the song before the piano played the last few notes of the song by itself. Mercedes gave everyone a hard stare across choir before speaking up once more.

“I quit.” She spat out before storming out of the choir room.
